Couch to 5k – Week 1.

Hello you!

I’ve recently embarked on the couch to 5k running programme and I’ve just finished week one. I thought I’d use my blog to give an honest account of how it’s been.

C25K is designed for beginner runners and is a week by week programme with the end goal being able to run 5k.

How much of a beginner am I? Well, I have never ran for exercise. Well, as a kid I did but in my adult life I’ve never ran. I don’t even think I’ve ran for a bus if I’m honest.

Week 1 starts by 60 seconds of running then 90 seconds of walking continued for 20 minutes. We did it every other day but had to skip one day when we couldn’t make childcare match up.

Day 1 was AWFUL. I mean properly terrible. I felt sick, I had a headache and I only 2 of the 8 runs opting to walk the rest. I came home and cried vowing never to try again. Super hubs convinced me I was probably dehydrated so to give day 2 ago.

Day 2 was so so much better. I ran all 8 runs, didn’t feel sick and didn’t have a headache. I found it tough but not too tough. It took me a while to get my breath at the end but I wasn’t sore.

Day 3, which was today, was ace! I ran again and found it so much easier. I concentrated on my breathing as on day 1 and 2 I wasn’t really breathing properly, kind of holding my breath. I did swallow a fly which was pretty horrific but the run it’s self was good.

I really can’t believe the difference between run 1 and run 3. A few people had said being able to run happens quickly if you try but I didn’t think it would.

I also can’t believe I’m saying this but, I enjoy it. I’ve looked forward to it and I’m already looking forward to out next run. I’m running with my very good friend, she’s fab! She’s fitter than I am but I don’t feel like she judging me. We have a laugh when we are doing the walking bit and it really makes the whole thing easier.

One thing I thought I would hate would be people seeing me run and today, lots of people saw us but I didn’t care. The people we came close enough too just said good morning and didn’t run away in horror and the others who were about didn’t bat an eyelid.

I’m really proud of myself for completing week 1 and I’m excited but nervous for week 2. I’m excited because I like the running, I’m nervous because I have to do 90 seconds of running which I can’t see myself being able to do. However, I couldn’t even run 60 seconds 5 days ago so I know I can do it, I just have to try!

So that’s it, week 1 done. Being on week 2.

xx

  1. Yay! Well done you! Well done for going on the second day. That was the hard bit – knowing how awful you found it, but still going again anyway. You can do this! x
